HogBaySoftware the company (one man) that produced WriteRoom for the Mac and iPhone has released the most marvelous editing tool for the iPad.
I didn't know exactly what I wanted in the pefect text editor on the iPad until Jesse Grosjean delivered PlainText. It's free (always a good feature), has absolutely no options to set for the font or size, doesn't support any formatting at all beyond the paragraph, supports folders for organising notes and best of all syncs with Dropbox. You can open and save right into your Dropbox, and it's included as an option for opening text files when in the Dropbox iPad app. If you don't use Dropbox already (and you should) you can get a free 2GB account to get you started.
You can have either an item view at the left that allows you to browse through your folders and open or delete a file or, with one click in the right corner of the screen, you get a distraction-free writing screen.
The only possible feature missing from this product is autoindenting (and perhaps a word count). Apart from that it's the perfect tool for taking notes: quick to load, quick to save, quick to learn, easy to use and certainly the right price.
