| The Good |
Easy to set up and begin play. Able to play against AI when you don't have any one to play against. |
| The Bad |
Questions don't live up to the difficulty level indicated by the game's name. |
| The Verdict |
Simple fun and always an engaging game, Trivial Pursuit is an evergreen that translates very well to iPad and is good value. |

| The Good |
Excellent adaptation for iPhone. Easy to create simple music tracks but room for complex works in hands of a competent user with musical training. |
| The Bad |
Sharing songs and samples is a pain. |
| The Verdict |
A lot of fun to use, this app could be improved to play better with other apps, but even so it's the best app of its kind on the market. |

Finally, cut to shreds

| The Good |
64-bit operation. Magnetic timeline. Background rendering. Easy colour grading. Easier for amateur users to embrace. |
| The Bad |
Buggy. Crash-prone. Less capable than the previous version with many features missing. A radical change to the software that is counter-productive for experienced and professional Final Cut Pro users. |
| The Verdict |
Disappointing. Very disappointing. Beta software that you have to pay for. |

Latest firmware update makes it a very solid performer; as good a handsfree kit as you'll find. |
| The Bad |
Requires professional installation — and make sure they update the firmware. Seriously. |
| The Verdict |
Before the firmware update I could not in good conscience have recommended this product even to my worst enemy. Since the update it's a new device and I'm a convert. |

Fast performance; Thunderbolt has plenty of promise; Upgrades to processor, graphics and I/O |
| The Bad |
Heavy; Higher resolution or anti-glare screens cost extra. |
| The Verdict |
If you need a notebook with serious grunt, the MacBook Pro is an excellent buy |

Very lengthy, highly addictive, quite funny, plenty of add-on content included, multiplayer compatible. |

Borderlands is glib, funny, violent, compelling, addictive and insanely good value. |

GarageBand 6

| The Good |
New guitar presets are always welcome. New timing correction tools will add polish to compositions. |
| The Bad |
Waveform editing of real instrument tracks is hard on the eyes. |
| The Verdict |
No great strides forward but some solid new features bring a measure of value to a package that is otherwise a bit too lacking in new features. |

iMovie '11

| The Good |
New edit tools and an excellent tool for fixing roller shutter problems. |
| The Bad |
A bit flaky and in need of fixing YouTube uploads. |
| The Verdict |
If you're a DSLR user shooting video on a CMOS sensor, you'll buy iLife '11 just to get at the Rolling Shutter correction. If not, there are sufficient bells and whistles in iMovie '11 to make the iLife suite worth buying. But only just. |

iPhoto 9 — a modest improvement

Your View
| The Good |
Projects view and full screen mode enhance the user experience. |
| The Bad |
Potential for data corruption. Unforgivable. |
| The Verdict |
What iPhoto 9.1 amounts to is a few small tweaks and a more comfortable workflow in fullscreen mode. Avoid disappointment by moderating your expectations. |

PlainText keeps it simple

| The Good |
It's free, it's simple to use and fast to load, it's distraction-free and takes advantage of Dropbox. |
| The Bad |
There's no auto-indent and no word count (and speaking of indents, why doesn't the iPad keyboard have a Tab key?) |
| The Verdict |
In case you haven't picked it up from the review, I recommend this product if you need to write and don't want bells and whistles in the way. If that's you, go get it now. |
